First Night Out

Tonight I experienced another one of those precious kid milestones, albeit an obscure one. A kindergarten classmate of my daughter Molly’s had scheduled a birthday party for this evening (yes, the night before Thanksgiving!), and due to a scheduling conflict with my wife’s work there was no way I could attend the party because I had to stay home with my younger daughter. A neighbor of ours has a son in the same class, so we asked if she would mind taking Molly along to the party for us. Being the great neighbor and friend that she is, the answer was “of course!”. Then today I realized that this would be the first time Molly went on a car trip with a friend and his parent(s). The significance of this moment did not escape my little girl. When I asked her what most excited her about going to the party, she quickly responded: “I can’t wait to see what the inside of Liam’s car looks like!”. Perfect.

Of course, like any parent I felt compelled to review manners with my kid before she left. The pleases, thank-you’s, and “what would you do if…” scenarios were rolling around in my head. Molly is a great kid and she took it all in stride. So on this Thanksgiving eve, I thought I’d go ahead and share why I’m so thankful to have such a sweet little girl in my life:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
